Flue-d

It was the season of marriage and consequently celebrations when the bad news broke up in Kolkata putting a moral ban on consumption of poultry and poultry products. All hell broke loose as the Bengalis, much faithful to their daily dose of chicken and deem (egg) had to manage with the sole diet of Fish (which is their culinary favourite) and Mutton.

This came with another bad news, the prices of mutton shot up to 240/kg from 170/kg.

Now that’s called Double Dhamaka!

There was an emotion and a financial edge to this as well…
A lot of chicken retail outlets like Arambaghs , KFC, Broadsters digested on the major financial loss as their sales fell like never before.
Emotionally, the poultry owners suffered parting with their “children” that surmounted their financial losses as well.

Over all 38 lakhs chickens were culled in all (West Bengal)

Long after the virus affected Kolkata after claiming 5 lives in the state, the government put a legal ban on the purchase and stock keeping of the product, despite which, the local vendors were seen feeding the “officers” in Dalhousie Square, Baghbazar and Chandani Chowk.

Its not been even 5 days that the vendors have got a clean chit on the poultry products percolating a smile and a sigh of relief.

Though there aren’t any evidences, I personally feel that the government played the same shot as it has played with the cola industry (scams and bans) for more than once now.
